Socks and Sandals

Unless your a gymnast --they do this for an entirely practical reason--or have a medical excuse, you should, under NO circumstances, wear socks and sandals together.
What motivates someone to combine the two? It defeats the very purpose of socks and sandals.

*Note: It is especially henious if your sandals have a thong. This accentuates the shape of your toes as if you're not even wearing socks...but you are, and you still look stupid.

Let's take a look look at logical reasons why socks and sandals don't work well together:
1.) A sock is designed to absorb foot perspiration created from the heat of being in a sock. A sandal automatically airs out your feet to keep them dry. If you are wearing them together, the perspiration stays trapped in the sock, also creating an accompanying smell.
2.) A sock is meant to warm your feet during cold weather. A sandal is worn when the weather is warm enough to keep your feet warm. Therefore, they are incompatible.
3.) Socks are protected from stains and debris by a covering--shoes or sneakers. Sandals do not protect your feet. They have holes that make it easy to feel a breeze, the sand between your toes, or even wade in shallow water (stain/debris is often welcome). I'd like to see some asshole walk in shallow water with socks and sandals on.

According to a definition on UrbanDictionary.com, wearing socks and sandals together is "the gangster way for wearing sandels. The only time you will catch a gangster wearing sandels is if its summer time and they are wearing some crispy (white) socks with some adidas or jordan or nike sandels. Shit is too GANGSTA. Old people think its gay but anybody who knows fashion knows is G as a mothafucka."

I've witnessed this trend firsthand at a local high school graduation. Dozens of, mostly, men showed off their plain white socks and Nike sandals. I was devastated that these young adults were so pleased with their foot attire.

If they are wearing socks and sandals to look intimidating, they're screwed. If they need to run from friends/enemies/cops, they're screwed. If they're trying to walk like a gangsta and shuffle their feet around, they're not screwed, but will look like they need assistance walking in your socks and sandals. Remember, this trend is most noted in senior citizen circles. Put on a bathrobe and voila! I don't see how the stereotypical senior citizen is "gangsta."

<----That's gangsta!

A scarier thing to note is that runways/celebs are showing off this trend lately. While the socks and sandals are much more fashionable, I agree with the poster of this blog: try wearing the combo in public and not getting made fun of.

So what's the moral of the story? Even if you don't agree, you think that socks and sandals look wonderful together (you're nuts), think of the many practical reasons not to mix them. Let these guide your conscience as you dress yourself each morning.
